Active Rehabilitation

Introduction

At My Empower Therapy, we’re pleased to offer Active Rehabilitation at both our Panorama Headquarters (Surrey) and Burnaby clinics. This program is designed for individuals (children and youth) who are working to regain strength, movement, coordination and independence — whether after an injury, surgery, or as part of managing a developmental or mobility challenge.

Active rehabilitation is an approach that focuses on active participation in recovery — through guided exercises, movement-based therapy, functional tasks and progressive challenge — rather than only passive treatments.

Who is it for?

Our Active Rehabilitation program is ideal for clients who:

  • Are recovering from injury, surgery or musculoskeletal strain

  • Are working to improve mobility, strength, balance or coordination

  • Need support to re-engage in functional tasks (e.g., walking, climbing stairs, play activities, school-based motor skills)

  • Would benefit from therapist-guided exercise programmes rather than only passive treatment modalities

  • Are motivated to actively participate in their recovery and long-term functional improvement

Want to learn how we can support your child’s progress?

What to expect

When you enroll in our Active Rehabilitation program, here’s how the process works:

  1. Assessment – A therapist will evaluate your current mobility, strength, coordination, functional tasks, and goals.

  2. Individualized Plan – Based on the assessment, we’ll develop a customised plan that may include:

    • Targeted strength training exercises

    • Functional movement activities (e.g., sit-to-stand, stepping, climbing)

    • Balance and coordination drills

    • Mobility/flexibility work

    • Progression toward independence in daily tasks and/or play/school activity

  3. Therapist-Guided Sessions – Under supervision, you’ll perform the prescribed exercises and tasks, receiving feedback, modifications and support from our therapists.

  4. Home/School Activity Integration – We’ll provide guidance so you can continue progress outside the clinic (at home, on the playground, at school) — this helps reinforce gains and supports lasting improvement.

  5. Progress Review & Adjustment – At set intervals we’ll review your progress, update goals and modify the program to advance you toward your independence/function milestone.

Why choose our program?

  • We believe in empowering clients — you’re an active participant, not just a passive recipient of care.

  • Our multidisciplinary team (speech, OT, behaviour, etc) allows for integrated care when needed.

  • We tailor the rehabilitation plan to your setting (home, school, community) and functional goals.

  • By focussing on active movement and functional tasks, we support long-term independence, not just short-term symptom relief.

  • Our two-locations (Surrey/Panorama & Burnaby) provide flexibility for families in the Lower Mainland.
