Early Intervention / KG Readiness Program
What Is Early Intervention?
Early Intervention is specialized support for young children who show delays or challenges in areas like speech, motor skills, behavior, or social interaction. Research shows that the earlier a child receives support, the more likely they are to catch up with peers and thrive in academic settings.
Our goal is to identify and support developmental delays early—so children can enter kindergarten with confidence, independence, and the tools they need to succeed.
We use evidence-based modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to empower individuals to take control of their lives. Our team personalizes each session based on your needs, whether you’re looking for behavior therapy for children, teens, or adults.
What Is Kindergarten Readiness?
Kindergarten readiness goes beyond knowing letters and numbers. It includes a wide range of developmental skills, such as:
- Listening and following instructions
- Sitting for short group activities
- Interacting with peers and sharing
- Communicating needs clearly
- Holding a pencil and cutting with scissors
- Managing transitions and routines
Our program is designed to improve these skills through play-based, goal-driven therapy sessions.
Whether it’s a non-verbal child developing basic communication or a child with articulation disorder refining their speech clarity, our individualized treatment plans are designed to empower lasting growth.

Our Approach: What the Research Says
My Empower Therapy’s early intervention model was the subject of a peer-reviewed poster presentation at the Applied Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) Annual Conference, led by Dr. Farah Rattansi, Anu Varghese, and Lillian Chen.
Early intervention is most effective when delivered through models that are evidence-based, family-centered, and intentionally inclusive. Our multidisciplinary team integrates applied behavior analysis, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, counselling, and educational supports — all tailored to each child’s developmental profile, cultural context, and family priorities.

The 5 Principles Behind Our Program
Our program is built on internationally recognized principles of effective early intervention.
-
Evidence-based practice: Interventions are selected based on outcomes demonstrated in controlled studies and systematic reviews.
-
Effective communication: Sessions are individualized to each child's strengths, needs, and developmental level — child-responsive and tailored.
-
Family involvement: Caregivers are coached to implement strategies consistently across daily routines — at home, school, and in the community.
-
Naturalistic teaching: Learning happens within meaningful, real-life contexts — play and daily activities — not isolated drill tasks.
-
Intensity and duration: More hours of early, consistent intervention are associated with greater skill acquisition in early childhood.

“Effects of Intensive Early Intervention for Outcomes in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder”
This poster presents a practice-informed overview of early intervention outcomes as implemented at My Empower Therapy, a multidisciplinary pediatric organization serving diverse communities across British Columbia. The model integrates applied behavior analysis, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, counselling, and educational supports to address communication, adaptive functioning, social engagement, and emotional regulation in children with autism spectrum disorder and related developmental needs.
Intervention is individualized to each child’s developmental profile, cultural context, and family priorities — with caregivers positioned as active partners in therapy. Services are delivered across clinic, home, school, and community environments, supported through flexible scheduling, telehealth, and culturally responsive parent coaching to reduce barriers to access.
Consistent with research from randomized trials and systematic reviews, children receiving early intervention within this model demonstrate improvements in expressive-receptive communication, daily living skills, social reciprocity, and generalized abilities — alongside reductions in caregiver stress.

Why Early Matters
Early intervention is most effective when it is early, equitable, inclusive, and family-centered. Culturally responsive practices enhance communication, adaptive functioning, and long-term independence while reducing disparities in outcomes. Inclusive early intervention is not only clinically effective — it is ethically necessary for building systems that serve all children and families with dignity.
